The dining room has been in progress for a long time. This was the only room that underwent some reconstruction. I had to rely on Dear Old Dad to be the project manager, and I paid him in food and beer and hugs. Because that’s all I’ve got. Project #1 was removing two windows and installing a sliding glass door, and Project #2 was building wainscoting around the room.
I could bore you with the details of wallpaper removal, sliding glass door selection, and wainscoting design, but I’d rather forget most of that and take a visual trip down memory lane, instead…
The Before

pink. and very wallpapered.

gold "candle" wall sconces and hideous ceiling fan.

that's the kitchen through the doorway, it looks VERY different, now too!
The During

wallpaper gone. ceiling fan replaced with Ikea light fixture.

one afternoon i came home to find my dad ripping the siding off my house---surprise!

temporary wall to hold my house up while most of the back wall is being removed.

installing the sliding glass door.

the beginning of the fancy wainscoting.
(Another post written during the remodel…back in August!)
The After
(More info about my stuff on my Flickr notes.)
Before I moved into my house this past July, I already knew exactly what I wanted my dining room to look like. I just didn’t know I would love it THIS much!
Wow, that white chandelier is gorgeous! Love it!

Wow, it looks fantastic!
Marvelous makeover!
Oh my gosh, it’s like a different, better world. It’s so great that family was able to work with you on this. Congratulations on beautifying your pad!
This is @teruterubouzu from twitter.
I love the blend of modern and classic. And what a sweet papa you have to do all that manual labor. I might have missed it, but could you tell me what paint color you used on the walls?
Thanks so much! Dad was a total rockstar on this one!
The color is Martha Stewart’s Auracana Blue, but I got the color mixed in Behr paint. This color was NOT easy to find!! jenna http://www.smallbirdjewelry.com

SHUT UP. and by SHUT UP, i mean, “i love you and i want to come live there with you.” your house is looking like how i wish mine did. only mine is cruddier and littered w/ plastic pediatric crappola!!! gah!!!! and p.s. when did you take the AFTER picture cos there is no way you don’t have a foot of snow on the ground– or maybe it’s 75 degrees. this is rochester in december we’re talking about here– anything can happen!
What a beautiful before and after. I hope you share more pictures. And nice dad!
Your home is so gorgeous! I love those curtains (go figure given the black on taupe color scheme…) Your eye for detail is incredible and those Christmas shots are just amazing! It makes me wish I had a house! Happy Holidays sweetie!
ceiling fans are great for cooling a warm room with large area. i prefer them over multiple desk fans,”;
