The Second Storie Indie Market was simply wonderful. The show has grown significantly since last year in terms of attendance and vendors, but what remained the same was the warm, inviting atmosphere that Cris, JoAnn, Karen, Rachael, and Shanna worked so hard to create. It had a lot to do with the handmade paper bunting, I think. 😉

It was great to see some of last year’s vendors in person once again, as well as some of the same shoppers! Getting a chance to meet people face to face and hear so many sweet and genuine comments on your work never gets old.

I also enjoyed sharing my table space with a couple of my favorite sidekicks. Having a day to sit and chat together was really a treat for me.

Oh, but enough of this mushiness. On to the loot…

My first order of business was purchasing a pair of earrings from Amber of Mani Designs. I do not have a picture because they have not left my ear lobes long enough to sit for a photo shoot. You’ll have to trust me when I tell you they’re absolutely gorgeous.

I also left with a tumbler which is a collaborative project between Shanna Murray and Vicki Hartman. I knew exactly where I wanted to put it when I picked it out, and I think it is very happy in its new home in my dining room.

This tea towel by Shanna and Betsy of Hello Handmade (which looks so darn cute all tied up that I just haven’t had the heart to undo it!) will definitely be put to use in the kitchen, once I put the Christmas towels away….

…and this pillow by Lizz Switzer looks better than perfect in my living room.

Thanks to all of the vendors who traveled from near and far to make this show the high-quality event that it is, thanks to the Second Storie gang for all their hard work and thoughtfulness in putting the show together, and thanks to all of you who attended the show and stopped by my table to shop or chat! What a nice way to start the holiday season!

You can view more photos of the event on Ashley R. Thompson’s photostream, and read lots more about the show by following the links in the Second Storie post!

And while we’re sort of on the subject, allow me to do just a bit of housekeeping by pointing you in the direction of my holiday shopping info. I’m still working on restocking the shop, but feel free to contact me if there’s an item you are particularly interested in!

So I bought a house. And while that is all very fantastic and exciting, things are a little chaotic right now. Which means that in order to keep my sanity, I have to slow things down a bit with the Small Bird shop—just for now.  Most items (necklaces, bracelets, and earrings) will still be readily available. If they’re in the shop, they’re ready to ship! However, rings will not be available for about a month. Every ring is made to size after you place your order, and I want to make sure that I take the proper time and care with creating each and every ring.  Right now, my schedule and workspace simply won’t allow it.  All rings have been marked “Coming Soon” and should be available again by mid-July. Items that are currently sold out will take about a month to restock, as well.  I do apologize for any inconvenience, and look forward to making more jewelry in a bigger, better, more functional studio space very, very soon!

If you desperately need a ring fix, there are still several rings (of specific size, only) on sale and ready to ship at the Small Bird Outlet! Yes, it’s the old Etsy shop.  But “outlet” sounds cooler. If you needed a gift for someone, Small Bird gift certificates are always available through PayPal. Just click the gift certificate button in the sidebar of the shop!

In the meantime, I’m trying to make someone else’s old house into my new home…DIY-style.  🙂 House projects both large and small are already in the works. My next challenge is finding the time to blog about them!

the babies are coming!

Everyone I know is pregnant. Everyone. Ok, not everyone, but I know 4 babies that are arriving this spring, all within weeks of each other! Seem like a lot of babies to me.

The best part is, one of these babies is going to be my first niece or nephew—I’m going to be an aunt! I’m reallyreallyreally excited. (reallyreallyreallyreally…) Of course I’m going to knit for the little peanut, but I kinda can’t help shopping in the meantime.

Yes, I bought my niecephew a Small Bird onesie. Turns out, they’ll print anything you want on a onesie. With options like that, my sister and brother-in-law are lucky that my business logo is the only thing I tried to put on their kid! (For now.) And my sister loved it. And this is why I love my sister. Because I can cheapen the miracle of life by attempting to turn her firstborn child into a living business card and she thinks it’s as funny as I do. 😉 Actually, she thinks it’s pretty cute, too. But I should really knit this kid something good if I expect to get away with this kind of nonsense.

I’m trying to get my Assemblage cardigan under control before I start my baby garment factory. But I have several patterns all lined up and some of the yarn is already here and I’m having a very hard time NOT casting on. Cuteness…it is hard to resist.
